God Speaks Jenga
Recently, my friend Tracie was at a Women of Wisdom (WOW) meeting, and she asked if anyone wanted to share any visions or words from the Lord with the group. One attendee spoke up and offered to give her impressions. I am paraphrasing from the discussion when I say: she saw a “Jenga® game,” and she urged to lean into “God’s specific strategies to complete His Kingdom work.” Just like a Jenga® game, not everyone can play and win. Sometimes, the plays are easy, and sometimes the pieces are finagled and wiggled into place. Usually, the game moves slowly, and the pieces at the top must be positioned with care. Like Jenga®, our strategy must be about building people up in God’s Kingdom, so they don’t fall and end the game prematurely.
In May at our ministry retreat, Tracie and I played Jenga®, and it was exhilarating. I know exhilaration isn’t a usual response when playing the game; however, I saw moves made that should’ve ended the game quickly, and I performed moves that did not seem possible.I giggle when I hear the retelling of the Jenga® game vision because it reminds me of how creative God is at reaching me and speaking to my heart. You see, Tracie and I were at the retreat, yet the attendee who shared was not!
Today, I see more of God’s strategy during periods of transition because of the valuable insight I received from this Jenga® experience. Some examples:
God “Removes” in order to “Build” (Ecclesiastes 3:3b ‘a time to tear down and a time to build’)
God gives confidence in community – I didn’t think I could do it, until I saw someone else do it (Acts 4:13 ‘When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus’)
When I think “it’s coming down,” there is “building” going on (Jeremiah 33:3‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know’)
The Lords strategy is victorious (getting a strategy helps) (Isaiah 8:26 ‘His God instructs him and teaches him the right way.’)
I am unique ( I am not everyone) (Psalm 139:14a ‘I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made’)
Falling is Ok, getting back up is best (Proverbs 24:16 ‘for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again’)
Playing is God’s Idea (Zechariah 8:5 ‘The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there’)
Jenga® continues to remind me of God’s “upside down kingdom”. Jesus is a mystery, and my heart longs to know Him intimately. I want to be in awe of my Savior and Father God forever.
Have you experienced any of these ‘Jenga®-like’ moves in your life?
How is God building you up today?
