What Happened to You?

Updated: Jun 17

Have you ever happened upon a piece of land and wondered what happened here? That’s the question I found myself asking when on assignment with a mission to restore this vital water portal.

The dam holds great value to Hannah’s Game Lodge, the location and host for a conference I attended - “Worship on the Land – South Africa 2024," as they are striving to undertake this vital link of sustainability connected to the land, wildlife and the delicate balance between man and nature.

Under the direction of conference leader, Megan Caldecourt founder of Go Beyond the Horizon, we first inquired, who was here first - God or the devil? Knowing the answer is God, the second question helped reveal more about the why related to this patch of ground that had continued to suck down the water back into itself from a underground aquifer rather than release it up into the open space specifically created for it to flow.

“He turns rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;  a fruitful land into]barrenness, For the wickedness of those who dwell in it. He turns a wilderness into pools of water, and dry land into watersprings.” (Psalms 107:33-35 )

My team was not the first to have ‘worked’ on this particular piece of land on the Game Lodge, but our approach was to be very, very different. We were to call blessing of God’s worship over this area and to inquire with the Holy Spirit what had happened so as to call back into being the restorative processes that God had intended it to serve.

I made my way around the back of the dam and set my sight to view the surrounding territory from every angle. Here’s what I heard in my spirit, “There had been prey who had come to destroy and pollute the patch, so the land felt it would be better to just suck back up the water rather than to share it with the world.

The team shared what each of us had received and we began to pray, pouring out prayers for the land to remember who created it, to embrace a limitless and free ability to create and be reconciled in celebration with the true and loving owner, Christ Jesus.

Next, we called it to awaken to its original design and receive the deep waters of God’s wells as its gift to share with all who will come to drink deeply from it’s reserves. Small birds began to swish and dovetail across the stagnant waters, as we together took communion in welcome expectation of the stories to be told because of this precious dam of water.

Blessing the three cord strand of the Holy Trinity, we agreed with God’s plan to bring nurture, sound and fragrance to be accessed by this land as the breath of God decreed.

Thank you, God, that we listened, asked what had happened, and heard the cry of this special place in Your plan. May the land’s voice be an open portal of new life birthed and arising into all it’s true and perfect fulfillment.

“For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians‬ 3‬:9‬-13‬ NKJV‬‬)

This article really speaks to me about my current assignment. I was also surprised by the faint rainbow 🌈 in the picture! God definitely blessed this place!
